UFC president Dana White announced Tuesday via
twitter that lightweight contenders Jim Miller (21-3-0) and Nate Diaz (15-7-0) will collide in a pivotal match-up at 155lbs as each man looks to stake his claim as the division's next #1 contender.
The bout is the first confirmed for
UFC on FOX 3, which is scheduled for May 5, 2012, at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ.
Representing
AMA Fight Club, local favorite Jim Miller is fresh off a first round stoppage of Melvin Guillard at
UFC on Fox 3. Prior to that, Miller saw a seven-fight winning streak snapped by current #1 contender Benson Henderson when the former WEC lightweight champion handily out-pointed him to score the unanimous decision. Miller owns twelve of twenty-one career wins by way of submission and has never been stopped inside the distance in his professional career.
Cut from a similar cloth, Cesar Gracie standout, Nate Diaz, is also a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black-belt with ten of fifteen wins on record coming by submission. The California native has posted consecutive wins since returning to the lightweight ranks, most recently defeating Donald Cerrone in convincing fashion at
UFC 141 - Lesnar vs. Overeem. Diaz has suffered only one defeat by stoppage when Hermes Franca submitted him prior to his signing with the UFC.
