Friday, January 20, 2012, the Ultimate Fighting Championship went live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, for UFC on FX 1, which featured a lightweight showdown between top contenders Melvin Guillard (29-10-2) and Jim Miller (21-3-0).

Despite absorbing a number of heavy blows early in the opening frame, New Jersey's Jim Miller showed tremendous resilience in his pursuit of the take-down, one he would finally land after an ill-advised flying knee from "The Young Assassin" Melvin Guillard.

Once in top position, Miller worked to pass the guard of Guillard who looked anxiously for an opportunity to return to his feet; but the ensuing scramble would see the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black-belt gain the Blackzilian representative's back while locking in the fight-ending Rear-Naked Choke.

The official end came at 2:04 of the opening round as Jim Miller continues to impress among the 155lb elite. The effort would earn the AMA Fight Club representative submission of the night and an additional $45 000.

Knockout of the night, and the $45 000 reward would go to Canada's Nick Denis who took only twenty-two seconds to finish Joseph Sandoval with elbows from the clinch in the first round.

Fight of the night ($45 000), was picked up by heavyweight talents Pat Barry and Christian Morecraft as each man traded fight ending opportunities before Barry - a kick boxing specialist - landed a devastating left hook followed by heavy ground and pound to bring about the stoppage only 3:38 into the fight.
